About this tour

The minimum time to give the Northern Ha Giang Loop any justness is three days. We call it jokingly ‘hurry, hurry’ to try to indicate that it would be three quite long days of motorcycling. It would be no possibilities for add-on activities like trekking and limits to time visiting the many attractions that the loop has to offer.
The tour would still ensure the completion of the full loop with inclusion of Heaven’s Gate, the Highland of Stone, Dong Van, the Ma Pi Leng mountain pass and the backroads of the spectacular inner Ha Giang mountains.
There will be no time for lazy sleep-in mornings, and we will be out on the road at 8 am each of the days.
Possibility to self-drive or to ride pillion (behind guide/driver). If self-driving, we recommend sound prior motorcycling experience
Accommodation will be one night in ethnic minority homestay and one night in hotel (choice of doing both nights in homestay)

9:00 AM: After a hearty breakfast in Ha Giang city, we set off towards Quan Ba district, located about 50 km away. As we travel along the winding roads, we enter the stunning Dong Van Karst Plateau Global Geopark. Our first stop is at the majestic Heaven’s Gate. Here, you can take in the breathtaking panoramic view of Tam Son town below, framed by the iconic Twin Mountains of Quan Ba, surrounded by lush green rice fields. This is the perfect spot for photos and a moment of relaxation with a cup of local coffee.

11:45 AM: We continue our journey to Tam Son Town for a delicious traditional lunch. Afterward, we head to Lung Khuy Village, where an invigorating 4 km hike awaits. Our destination is the mysterious Lung Khuy Cave, a hidden gem tucked away in the rugged hills.

Explore the cave’s natural beauty for about an hour before we head to the Lung Tam Weaving Village, a place where local H’mong people continue the ancient art of linen weaving, crafting beautiful, handmade clothing. A short distance from the weaving village is Bat Dai Son, a viewpoint where you can marvel at the awe-inspiring landscapes of Quan Ba, with its undulating hills and valleys.

5:00 PM: We arrive at our homestay in Can Ty, a tranquil spot surrounded by nature. After settling in, we'll take a 2 km walk to visit the famous Lonely Tree (Cây Cô Đơn)—a 250-year-old tree standing proudly in the middle of a vast, open field.

In the evening, relax and enjoy a homestyle dinner, sharing stories with fellow travelers as you unwind and prepare for the adventure that awaits the next day.

Day 2: Can Ty Commune – Tham Ma Pass – H’mong King Palace – Lung Cu – Nho Que – Talung Ecolodge (Meo Vac)

7:45 AM: After breakfast, we begin our journey from Can Ty to Tham Ma Pass, one of the most beautiful stretches of road in Vietnam. As we ascend the 1,500-meter-high pass, stop at the viewpoint to take in the sweeping vistas of the surrounding mountains and valleys.

Next, we drive 20 km to Vua Meo Mansion (H’mong King Palace), a century-old mansion worth over 150 billion VND. The palace, which once belonged to the powerful H’mong King, is steeped in history and local legends. The tour guide will share captivating stories about the H'mong ethnic group and the royal family’s legacy.

From the palace, we travel to Lung Cu Commune to visit the Lung Cu Flag Tower, the northernmost point of Vietnam. A climb of over 400 steps will reward you with panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and the Chinese border, just 3 km away.

12:00 PM: We'll stop for lunch in Dong Van Town, before heading towards Ma Pi Leng Pass—one of the most stunning mountain passes in Vietnam. Here, we’ll descend to the Nho Que River for a serene boat tour that lasts about 50 minutes, offering a unique perspective of the surrounding cliffs and the lush canyon below.

5:00 PM: We arrive at our homestay in Meo Vac, where you'll enjoy a traditional dinner and live music, immersing yourself in the local atmosphere before retiring for the night.

8:00 AM: After breakfast, we head back towards Meo Vac, where you’ll have the chance to explore the traditional H’mong villages. These remote villages are known for their distinct stone gates and tightly-knit houses that preserve the region’s ancient culture.

We then continue towards Sa Ly Pass, a beautiful stretch of road offering sweeping views of M-shaped curves and vibrant green fields. Keep an eye out for children in traditional costumes, carrying baskets of food on their backs, adding to the picturesque scene.

10:00 AM: We arrive at Duong Thuong Commune in Yen Minh District, a tranquil village where time seems to stand still. The vast cornfields and charming local life make it a photographer's paradise.

12:30 PM: We'll enjoy a leisurely lunch at Can Ty Village before continuing on our journey towards Thai An Commune, following scenic roads through Thuan Hoa Commune. The 65 km journey brings us back to Ha Giang City.

4:30 PM: The tour concludes at the QT guesthouse in Ha Giang, where you can relax before boarding the bus back to Hanoi or continuing your travels to other destinations.
